Hikmat, Palestine – photo essay –

A picture is worth a thousand words; these are pictures of my children when they saw the sea for the first time.

We started our day by entering an Israeli military checkpoint in Jalama, which was hard to coordinate since we always have difficulties in obtaining a permit to enter with two children so they have never seen the sea in their lifetime.

The bus dropped us to the sea beach in Achziv. At first it seemed natural when we arrived but just after a few moments the kids began to carefully look at the sea quietly and then they refused to eat. I took them quickly to the beach, it was a strange feeling but when they went in water they tried catching the waves and then started running all over the place, laughing and shouting. It was a very nice feeling, I cannot express the emotions I felt as I watched them.
