Demonstrations of Algerians shouting "Free democratic Algeria!" in Tunis, by Fadel Abouda, YaLa Citizen Journalist. Most Tunisians are supporting the demonstrations that are currently happening in Algeria. We support a democratic Algeria and the wind of change there because that will benefit us and the whole region. Democracies get along together... I really wish for something positive to come out of it! Sadly, our government can't express its support freely because of the economic interests we have with Algeria and in terms of fighting terrorism. Indeed, the instability of Libya has cost Tunisia a lot. And an unstable Algeria would cost Tunisia even more, because the mountains between Tunisia and Algeria are full of terrorists, and without their support, it will be hard to defeat terrorism! That’s why the Tunisian government is being pragmatic. However, if they could express their points of view freely, they would support the Algerian protestors. As for the Tunisian youth, of course, we support our Algerian neighbors in their quest for more democracy! Tunisia inspired the whole region because we all suffer from the same problems. And the Arab spring isn't over yet. By Mohamed A, YaLa Citizen Journalist from Algeria: "Masses of student protests all across the country in Algiers, Tlemcen, Bejaia, Ouragla, Skikda, Biskra,Batna Constantine, Setif, Boumerdes, Bouira & Maaskra, amongst others. Their message is clear: you will not get another year. People are calling Bouteflika to step down given the fact he is in absolutely no state to continue running in elections. Abdelaziz Bouteflika ,aged 82 years old and in very critical health condition, has been ruling Algeria as a president for 20 years (since 1999). Now he is seeking a fifth term in office. The ruling FLN party has already adopted him as its candidate for the presidential elections of April 2019 altogether with the support of different sections of the political establishment. This move generated a national wave of anger among the public. Bouteflika won with 80% of the votes in 2014 elections despite not taking part in his own campaign. He cast his votes from a wheelchair and almost half of the electorate stayed away from the polls. Regardless of politics, it’s clear that Bouteflika is incapable of carrying out presidential duties efficiently. According to Prof. Dr. Hocine Bouraoui a specialist in neurology and neuropsychology Bouteflika's health condition does not allow him to exercise high functions. He suffered from a stroke in 2013 and spent almost four months in a hospital in France. Since then he has rarely been seen in public.
